अतः किसी माध्यम की विद्युतशीलता और निर्वात में बौद्धिक क्षमता का अनुपात उस माध्यम के परावर्तन के बराबर होता है यह एक अदिश राशि हैै यह मात्रक हीन व विमाहीन राशि है ।

किसी पदार्थ की अचालकता (चालकता अधिक होगी) जितनी कम होगी उसका परावैद्युतांक उतना ही अधिक होगा । वायु या निर्वात के लिए k=1 , कांच के लिए k=6 , जल के लिए k=8 , धातुओं के लिए k= अनंत ।
